Wrestling season begins with Owen Invitational

Wrestling began last weekend with the Owen Invitational in Polson where 18 regional teams competed in the two day tournament. There are 13 wrestlers out this year for the Clark Fork Mountain Cats, mostly sophomores and freshmen.

Mike Parkin and Isaiah Kovalsky are the returning wins leaders from last year and Crabb feels they’ll do well again this year.

“I think we look pretty good. We are very young and talented and it’ll be a fun year watching them develop,” he said. “These guys will all make some noise in their respective weight classes.”

On day one of the invitational Mike Parkin pinned Robert Dempsey from Mission/Charlo. While Nathan Buckley from Whitefish won over Wesley Buchannen, 3-2 and Ricky Thomas from Lake City, Idaho pinned Hunter Haskins.

Beau King from Sentinel pinned Isaiah Kovalsky and Jhase Monroe from Browning pinned Thomas Anderson. Austin Nelson, Columbia Falls, pinned Parkin during the second round.

Overall team results were Missoula Sentinel 193, Frenchtown 161, Polson 140.5, Columbia Falls 119, Thompson Falls 87.5, Libby 82, Mission/Charlo 72.5, Hamilton 71, Corvallis 70.5, Lake City, Idaho 60, Eureka 58, Florence 49, Missoula Hellgate 37, Browning 36, Whitefish 35, Stevensville 31.5, Ronan 29, Superior 7.
